Annie Naulalik Qappik is a printmaker who resides in Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung), NU, in the Canadian north.
Annie began her artistic practice as a young adult when she began stitching embroidery into wall hangings. Her print Moonlight Over Pang shows a figure skidooing across a frozen lake at night, pulling a block of ice on a sled behind them, the light off the skidoo mirroring the moon directly above.
Qappik's drawings have been turned into tapestries and prints by the Uqqurmuit Centre and she has also worked collaboratively with other local artists to create a mural at the Pangnirtung Airport.
For the first time since 2011, the Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts & Crafts in Canada's Nunavut Territory launched a new collection. This work is part of the 2018 Pangnirtung Print Collection.
Giving this as a gift is a great way to support Inuit Canadian artists of the North while injecting a special part of the country into someone's home.
